Bennington Teachers Reject Contract Offer

Teachers in Bennington who’ve been working under an imposed contract have rejected an offer from area school boards.

The offer, presented Aug. 26 by the Southwest Vermont Regional Technical School District and the Bennington, Mount Anthony Union, North Bennington, Pownal and Shaftsbury school boards, was turned down in a 182-44 vote Wednesday.

Members of the Southwest Vermont Education Association union have been at odds with the districts over health care premiums, salaries and other issues.

President of the union Stephannie Peters tells the Bennington Banner the teachers will ask the boards to resume negotiating until a deal is reached.
