(Host) The town of Bennington decided last night it will light the Battle of Bennington Monument. The Zoning Board made the decision at a crowded meeting after a lengthy discussion of the issue.

Jim Richardson is with the State Buildings Department – he attended the meeting:

(Richardson) “I think it’s fair to say that there are still people down there who think that less light is better, but I believe there was enough strong feeling among some of the other citizens who believe now is the time to lights it, and this is the best way to do it.”

(Host) Richardson says they plan to complete the lighting project in time for a dedication ceremony on Veterans’ Day in November. The 300-foot obelisk is a monument to the Revolutionary War battle that was fought nearby.
