A Bennington native who started embroidering a quilt that consists of the patterns of all 50 state’s flags has finally finished it 30 years later.

Elizabeth Carbonaro, who lives in Inglewood, California, visited her sister in Bennington last week and brought the quilt with her.

The seven-by-five-foot quilt depicts all 50 state flags, in the order the states joined the union.

She started it in 1976 but really bore down on it after she retired.

Carbonaro brought the quilt East to display it at the Bank of Bennington last week. Today, it returns to California with her.
