Bennett, Former NH Publisher Dies

Edward Bennett, a former newspaper editor and publisher in Claremont, N.H., has died. He was 86.

Bennett died Aug. 8 after a brief illness. He was editor and publisher of the Claremont Daily Eagle – now the Eagle Times – from 1961 to 1972.

Bennett joined the paper in 1947 as the state editor. Prior to buying the Eagle, he owned and ran the Canaan Reporter, the Enfield Advocate and the Bristol Enterprise.

He bought the Vermont Standard in 1977 and edited that paper for six years.

Bennett also served two terms in the New Hampshire Senate in the 1950s and two terms in the House in the 1980s. He was also a volunteer firefighter in New Hampshire and Vermont.
