Basketville closing six stores

Basketville, a retailer based in Putney, is closing six of its eight stores on the East Coast.

Stores in Putney and Venice, Florida, will remain open. Stores in Sunderland, Sturbridge, Massachusetts, Lake George, New York, and in Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia will close. The closing date is unknown.

The family owned business was started in Putney in 1842 and was named Basketville in 1940s, according to the company’s web site.
The company’s baskets are woven by hand in China.

Basketville also imports baskets from around the world.
