A former high school basketball star will serve nine months to three years in prison on drug dealing charges.

Benjamin Brooks, 18, admitted he sold thousands of dollars worth of cocaine earlier this year.

Last year, Brooks, who had been a standout player at Champlain Valley Union High in Hinesburg, had pleaded guilty to a single charge of marijuana possession after police said they found cocaine, marijuana, scales, seeds and drug paraphernalia at his home.

He was ordered to undergo drug counseling and to appear before a community reparative board.

Since then, Brooks has pleaded guilty to drunken driving for arriving at the police station drunk to work as a drug informant.
