School boards around Vermont are struggling to craft budgets in a time of tight revenues, and in Barre, the process has the school board looking at cutting 11 jobs at the high school and technical center.

The board meets Monday to consider a proposal by a budget committee to cut an English teacher, a math teacher, a foreign language teacher, a music teacher, three other teachers and four paraprofessionals.

The proposal also calls for the school to drop driver’s ed, and instead provide stipends to students to help them pay for private driving instruction.

The budget committee has been meeting since November to pare down what initially looked like a 12.5 percent spending increase at Spaulding High School and the Barre Technical Center.
