A judge says the Chittenden Bank can foreclose on the former Mount Anthony Middle School in Bennington.

A Massachusetts man bought the building four years ago and had planned to convert it into an affordable, 85-bed senior independent and assisted-living center.

But the bank says the new owner Edward Levitt owes $475,000 in principal, interest and late charges.

Levitt’s attorney Peter Holden says his client is trying to work things out with the bank.
