Next week in Brattleboro, Yale Professor of History David Blight will focus a spotlight on what he says is an aspect of the fight for modern Civil Rights too often left in the dark: the connection to the American Civil War.
Blight will be speaking at the Vermont Humanities Council’s First Wednesday Lecture series about his new book "American Oracle".
The book frames the Civil Rights struggle of the late 50’s and early 60’s through the novels and essays of four diverse and prolific writers: Robert Penn Warren, Bruce Catton, Edmund Wilson, and James Baldwin.
