The Haskell Free Library and Opera House was a gift to both towns just over a century ago from local sawmill owner Carlos Haskell and his Martha Stewart Haskell.

The fact that this handsome, Victorian style structure, which is built of local granite and lumber, has the international boundary running through the reading room makes it unusual in many ways – as head librarian Nancy Rumery explains in this audio postcard from Derby Line.
