Attorney General warns Vermonters of phone credit card scam

The state Attorney General’s office is warning Vermonters to watch out for recorded calls from unidentified businesses offering to lower credit card interest rates.

The state says a number of Vermonters have received such calls recently and that when consumers asked the name of the business making the offer, the callers hung up.

The state reminds people to never provide financial information to anyone over the phone unless you initiated the call.

If you’d like to do business with a caller, research the business before agreeing to anything. A legitimate company will provide a name and a callback number.
