Vermont State Police say they’re trying to find out who’s responsible for toppling at least 22 headstones at the Cabot Village Cemetery.

Trooper Todd Ambroz says that sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, an unknown person or persons knocked over the headstones, breaking some of them. Caretaker Mark Codling discovered the damage Wednesday.

Ambroz calls the vandalism "deplorable." He says the headstones were so heavy, it probably took at least a couple of people to tip them over.

If the culprits are found, they’ll be charged with vandalism of cemeteries and monuments.
