The Appalachian Trail marks its 75th anniversary this weekend with a celebration at the trail’s center in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The weekend’s events will include a parade, music and workshops.

Speakers include author Leonard Adkins, who has hiked the entire length of the A-T five times; and Lucy Seeds, daughter of the first solo female thru-hiker.

The trail stretches nearly 22-hundred miles from Georgia to Maine, including a stretch through Vermont’s Green Mountains. Work to create the trail was completed August 14, 1937.
