Vermont State Police fire investigators say a blaze that gutted a youth sports concession stand and bathroom building in Williamstown was intentionally set.

The fire Tuesday was reported in a 911 call, but the buildings were fully engulfed by the time the Williamstown Fire Department arrived. They were a total loss, with damages put at $25,000. No one was hurt.

Detective Sgt. Matthew Nally says a criminal investigation is under way since the origin-and-cause probe found the blaze was set.

Dennis McLaughlin is treasurer of the Williamstown Youth Sports Association. He says the fire damaged water and power lines that need to be repaired before the town’s soccer season starts in three weeks.

McLaughlin says it hurts that someone would intentionally burn down buildings that serve the town’s children.
