An anti-war group at the University of Vermont is pushing the school to divest its holdings in companies that profit from war.

Like many universities, UVM has pulled divestments from companies that do business with South Africa and more recently the government of Sudan.

The group Students Against War has not yet defined the standard that they want UVM to apply but its focus seems to be on the most egregious of what students call “war profiteers.”

A substantial share of UVM’s endowment fund’s portfolio includes companies that hold U.S. Defense Department contracts.

The group has identified six as “war profiteers,” and hopes its effort will grow into a national movement.
