Anthropologist questions role of science in racism

Can science be manipulated to promote racism? It’s a question anthropologist Jonathan Marks has been pursuing in his research and in his book "What it means to be 98% Chimpanzee."

Marks is speaking tonight at UVM as part of the University’s week-long series of lectures honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.

Marks says the continuing focus on race in American society — from pop culture to politics — can foster a kind of scientific racism.
