A Vermont environmental group is looking for observers to help count the number of loons in the state.

The Vermont Loon Recovery Project is due to be held on July 16.

Loon biologist Eric Hanson of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies says the loon count is a great opportunity for people to visit a lake or pond they might not otherwise visit

Some of the high priority lakes in need of volunteers including Harveys Lake, Jobs Pond, Marshfield Reservoir, May Pond, Moore Reservoir, Nelson Pond, Newark Pond, Pigeon Pond, Pensioner Pond, Spring Lake, and Woodward Reservoir.

All surveys should be done between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 16.
