Animal Advocates Call For Stricter Anti-Breeding Laws

(Host) Humane society agents in Vermont are calling for stricter legislation regulating large-scale breeders, a day after the Vermont State Police rescued dozens of malnourished dogs from a home in Bakersfield.

The director of Vermont’s Humane Society says many of the dogs were living in cramped, filthy pens near an outhouse with little light.

The humane societies of Chittenden and Franklin County were also on hand to provide transportation assistance.

Animal advocates want Vermonters to adopt dogs from animal shelters or buy them from respected breeders, rather than purchasing them from a pet store – or online.
