University of Vermont scientists say concentrations of blue-green algae in Lake Champlain have dropped below alert levels in St. Albans and Burlington bays.

But they say a continuing bloom on the east side of Missisquoi Bay is cause for concern.

University of Vermont Biologist Mary Watzin is in charge of the algae testing. Watzin tells the Burlington Free Press that the sunny and hot and humid weather are ideal for algae growth

The state Department of Health recommends that people avoid the lake in areas with blue-green algae.
