Advocate Says Support Exists For Marijuana Decriminalization

On Town Meeting Day voters in Montpelier came out strongly in favor of de-criminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana.

The question before them was spearheaded by Nancy Lynch, who helped pass Vermont’s medical marijuana law in 2004, and later founded a non-profit group called the "Vermont Alliance for Intelligent Drug Laws."

VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb asked Nancy Lynch why she felt it was important to create this non-binding resolution, which advises Vermont lawmakers to make possession of small amounts of marijuana punishable by a fine rather than criminal arrest.
