(Host) The Shumlin administration is optimistic about bringing high-speed internet and cell phone service to all corners of Vermont in the next two years.

Karen Marshall is the Chief of Connect-Vermont, which is implementing Governor Peter Shumlin’s efforts to blanket the state with communications coverage.

Speaking on VPR’s Vermont Edition, Marshall said Vermont utilities are working together to expedite the process.

(Marshall) "Our very regulated electrical utilities, and what they’re doing, are meeting up with our somewhat unregulated telecommunications providers".

(Host) Marshall says that new federal funding will accelerate the pace of connectivity.

And she says that with Fairpoint Communications out of bankruptcy, the company is in a better position to make improvements to the existing telephone infrastructure.
