The Douglas administration’s plan to withhold an average of 2 percent from the budgets of many Vermont state agencies has some lawmakers upset.

Administration Secretary Neale Lunderville’s announcement on Monday that the administration would adopt that strategy until the state’s fiscal condition becomes clearer is drawing fire as contrary to the spending plan passed by the Legislature.

Meanwhile, both the Douglas administration and House Speaker Shap Smith have launched plans to find new efficiencies in state government.

Smith told a legislative committee yesterday he wants it to help find $30 million in annual savings.
