ACLU-VT Supports Increased Access To Police Records

Governor Peter Shumlin has expressed his desire to increase public and media access to police records. Getting that information has been difficult, reflected in a number of recent high-profile cases before the Vermont Supreme Court in which the court has sided with law enforcement in keeping the records under wraps.

Allen Gilbert is the executive director of the ACLU-Vermont, and he tells VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb there are very compelling reasons to change the state’s laws providing exemptions to public access of police records.
