The state’s new Challenges for Change budget-cutting plan is expected to trim $50-million in the next fiscal year. The details were released this week and some of the proposed cuts are quite controversial. The plan covers virtually every department of state government and could have a big impact on the administration of education across the state.

Chittenden senator Diane Snelling headed up the special Legislative committee examining this issue. Technology Chief Tom Evslin coordinated this effort for the Douglas Administration. Doug Hoffer is a progressive policy anaylist. They speak with VPR’s Bob Kinzel about the proposal and discuss why backers of the plan want it passed in the coming weeks.
