Twenty-five University of Vermont students have been arrested for trespassing while protesting the school’s intent to cut pay and jobs.

University President Dan Fogel met with a small group of students Wednesday afternoon.

But a university spokesman says the president did not negotiate with the students. He says Fogel simply reiterated the school’s plans for reducing expenses.

By late evening, 60 protesters with pizza boxes and water bottles remained inside one of the administration buildings.

Not all of them adhered to police warnings to leave once the building closed at 10:30.

So a team of police officers from several agencies escorted students outside the building and issued citations.
