A 14-year-old Wells boy is in custody after pleading not guilty to second-degree murder in the beating and shooting death of his mother.

Police say the beating death of 40-year-old Francine Morgan was recorded by a 911 call center in Washington County, New York.

Christian James Taylor is being charged as an adult, but he was ordered held in a secure juvenile facility pending further court proceedings.

A police affidavit did not offer a direct motive for the attack. But it described how Taylor told state police investigators he didn’t remember what happened to his mother, but "he either dreamed or remembered hearing his mother scream."
