Saturday Specials on VPR Classical

This Saturday will be filled with the sounds of dance music, new
additions to our music library, and an afternoon of opera favorites!

The day begins at 8 with Joe Goetz and the "Morning News". VPR Classical has been the fortunate benificiary of two personal CD collections in recent months, and thanks to listener supoprt we’ve been able to supplement that with many of today’s brand top new releases. Listen in for recent library additions including songs by Henry Purcell, a new recording from the very fine Russian pianist Vassily Primakov, and the Avison Ensemble performing keyboard sonatas by their namesake, Charles Avison.

At 10 Walter Parker waltzes in with a reprise of his beloved "Invitation to the Dance" theme, this time featuring highlights from Beethoven’s Creatures of Prometheus and the complete score from Aaron Copland’s ballet, Rodeo

Then settle in for an afternoon of opera favorites in recent and classic recordings as Peter Fox Smith and
Cheryl Willoughby host a special extended edition of "Saturday Afternoon at the Opera". Our good friend the Opera Quiz makes a return (thank you, Sam Sanders!) and we’ll hear newly acquired recordings by Hans Hotter, Christian Gerhaher, and Natalie Dessay. We’ll preview the upcoming Met season, and feature a sizzling new recording of duets with two of today’s operatic voices: Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon.

Don’t miss this Saturday’s specials, on VPR Classical!
