At farmers’ markets and in liquor stores around the state,
Vermonters can now find a number of spirits that are being produced right here. The selection now includes aged rye whiskey, honey-based vodka
and gin, maple- and elderflower-flavored rum and milk sugar vodka.

We check in with several producers of these libations to
learn about their wares and the challenges of distilling in Vermont.
We hear from one that is even growing its own grain for its whiskey.

Also on the program, Scott Russell of Tunbridge has become
known as the Homebrew Guru because of his more than two decades of making his
own beer. He’s also authored a book called "North American Clone Brews." He
shares some tips and talks about his love for homebrewing.

Plus, Middlebury’s Woodchuck Hard Cider plant can’t keep up with
production. As it awaits a new 100,000-square-foot headquarters, employees are
working out of temporary trailers. VPR’s Nina Keck reports on the country’s
largest cider manufacturer, which has $32 million in sales last year.
