The economy is front and center Friday on Vermont Edition in our conversation with Congressman Peter Welch. The dismal May jobs report showed that 69,000 new jobs were added to payrolls last month, moving the national unemployment rate up slightly to 8.2 percent. We learn what Rep. Welch thinks Congress, the president and the Federal Reserve should do to encourage economic recovery. Also, the five-year Farm Bill passed a procedural test in the Senate this week. We discuss what the bill will mean to Vermont farmers and the state’s food stamp program.
