Nearly a third of Vermonters still heat with wood, at least part of the time. That’s even though that can mean a lot of backbreaking work. For many people, cutting, splitting and stacking the season’s wood isn’t work so much as a seasonal reconnection with the land. We talk with two state forestry officials who both heat with wood, and celebrate the culture it represents.
