Vermont’s farms employ at least 1500 migrant farm workers, and nearly one-third of them come from Chiapas. When one of those workers, José Obeth Santiz Cruz, died on a Vermont farm last December, three members of a farmworkers’ rights group traveled to his village to learn more about his life and the lives of other workers who have come to Vermont. And they’ve now produced a documentary called "Silencec Voices" that is showing at locations around Vermont this summer. We talk with two of the documentary’s producers, Brendan O’Neill and Gustavo Teran about their film, and find out what they learned while in Mexico. Listen
Also, the Toronto-based Transmission Developers Inc. (TDI) has proposed an underground transmission line project to bring electricity to power-hungry New York City. The $3.8 billion project is called the "Champlain-Hudson Power Express", and it would carry electricity from Quebec to New York City via an underground cables through Lake Champlain and the Hudson River.
