The Vermont Supreme Court wants to reorganize the court system in the
state. It’s a move that could save money and make the judiciary more
efficient, but not everyone agrees that it would be a positive change.
Supreme Court chief justice Paul Reiber and Associate Justice John
Dooley will discuss the proposal to reduce the judicial authority of
side judges and close courthouses in Essex and Grand Isle counties, and
we’ll hear from state Senator Vincent Illuzzi who opposes the justices’
plan. We’ll also examine how budget cuts can lead to constitutional
tension between the judiciary, legislative and executive branches of
government.
