We’ve been hearing about drastic cuts to the state budget for several weeks, but what role does the public have in shaping these decisions? Paul Cillo of the Public Assets Institute joins us to discuss the budget recissions, and the transparency of those decisions, and what citizens need to understand about how the state uses its resources.

Vermont will spend 2009 commemorating the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s arrival at the lake that bears his name. Bruce Hyde heads the Quadricentennial Commission and he’ll give us a preview of the year-long celebration, which begins Wednesday during Burlington’s First Night festivities.

Also in the program, VPR’s Sarah Ashworth visits a local ice rink where a sharpened skate is a thing of beauty. We learn what goes into grinding the perfect blade.
