A law
passed last spring authorizes school districts to provide
pre-kindergarten education to some three and four year olds in Vermont.
Now state education officials are working out the details: how the
children will be chosen, where private preschools fit into the picture,
and how to assure uniform quality for all children who attend. Officials
are seeking comments from the public this month on these and other
issues covered by the law. We talk about what’s at stake with Jim
Squires of the Vermont Department of Education, and we hear from other
interested observers. We’ll be taking your calls and emails as well.  (Listen)

Also on the program, Hal Colston, who founded Good News Garage, has
another antipoverty program. It’s called "Neighborkeepers" and its goal
is nothing short of helping people break the bonds of poverty — with
help from a few well-connected friends.  (Listen)

 Finally, a challenge to
Vermonters from singer/activist Harry Belafonte, to end complacency
and take up the cause of social justice.  (Listen)
