A physician shortage is causing problems in many parts of the state.
Bennington’s Southwest Vermont Medical Center is currently down by
twenty doctors, and other areas are not far behind, forcing some
patients to travel long distances or resort to more costly emergency
room care. We examine what’s behind the situation and what’s being done
to entice more doctors to practice in rural Vermont.

Also on the program, we’ll take a look at this month’s major
religious holidays. We talk to a Brattleboro rabbi about how one
southern Vermont community is observing Yom Kippur, and we visit a
Ramadan observance at an Islamic center in Colchester.
