The thirteen red and white stripes and fifty stars on the
American flag have become a symbol of patriotism in our country.  We explore what the flag means and how that
meaning has changed, with Vermont
author and historian Woden Teachout.  She
explores the history of the flag and what its shifting symbolism reveals about
patriotism in her new book, Capture the
Flag: A Political History of American Patriotism.

Also, we talk with Senator Vincent Illuzzi.  He says he’ll introduce a bill next
legislative session calling for Public Service Board members to be elected,
rather than appointed.

And, we visit the Ethan Allen tower in Burlington,
where a dedicated group of volunteers lock and unlock the castle-like structure
each day.
