New Plan For Vermont State Hospital

The Agency of Human Services has massive profile of programs and people who are reliant on its services. Tuesday on Vermont Edition, we talk with Agency Secretary Doug Racine about yet another new plan for the Vermont State Hospital, a troubled and aging facility for mental health patients in crisis that Racine says should have been replaced 20 years ago. We also hear an update on changes at two state prisons in St. Albans and South Burlington, and Racine discusses a new effort for early childhood education.

Also in the program, composer and Royalton resident Christian Wolff. When he was commissioned to create music for the legendary dance choreographer Merce Cunningham, he was given just one directive: the length of the piece. Theme, tempo, mood, orchestration-all the rest was up to Wolff. Merce Cunningham’s company is presenting a farewell legacy tour hitting Paris, New York, Tokyo, Berlin…and Hanover. Wolff talks with Jane Lindholm about his lifelong collaboration with Cunningham.

And we open the mailbag to read from your messages to the program.
