Demand for wood stoves and pellet stoves is up this summer,
as Vermonters look for affordable ways to heat their homes this coming
winter. Stove and furnace dealers say
they’re completely sold out of pellet stoves, and they’re not sure if they’ll
receive any more this season. So why is
the demand so high? We take a closer
look at the cost of heating with wood, the availability of both wood and pellet
stoves, and some of the environmental concerns.
Our guests include one of the state’s Wood Utilization foresters, Paul
Frederick, and salesperson Richard Moskwa, who works at Montpelier’s
Stove and Flag Works.(Listen)

Plus, riots have broken out in Montreal over the killing of a teenager. We’ll get an update from a reporter with the
Montreal Gazette. (Listen)

And, this week, 2000 Jewish educators from around the country have
descended on the University of Vermont for the annual Conference on
Alternative Jewish Education. One of the themes of the year’s
conference is what’s called ‘eco-Judaism’ – exploring the intersection
between faith and environmentalism. We decided to drop by and find out
what eco-Judaism means. (Listen)
