Genetically engineered products are prevalent in the food system, from fruits and vegetables, to processed foods. But critics of GMOs say consumers don’t have access to reliable information about the genetically modified organisms they are eating. Tuesday on Vermont Edition, we look at bill in the Vermont House Agriculture Committee that would require GMO foods to be labeled for sale in Vermont. Proponents call it a consumer right to know law; detractors question whether it would stand up in federal court. Our guests include Rep. Kate Webb, Andrea Stander of Rural Vermont and Jim Harrison of the Vermont Grocers Association.

Also in the program, VPR reporter John Dillon gives us a Statehouse update as lawmakers look at the bills that must pass in the second half of the session, and how the higher-than-expected price tag of rebuilding the Waterbury state office complex will affect other priorities.
