With finite supplies of fossil fuels and a growing global demand for energy, cities will need to create strategies for dealing with this challenge. Those that develop the greatest efficiencies might become the most economically viable.

UVM Associate Professor and Author Austin Troy has studied cities around the world, including Burlington, to gauge their "energy metabolisms." He has chronicled the findings in his new book, "The Very Hungry City: Urban Energy Efficiency and the Economic Fate of Cities."
