This summer an audit of Vermont’s expanded online Sex Offender Registry turned up serious problems with the accuracy of the information it contained.  In some cases, names that should have been listed on the registry did not appear.  In others, individuals were listed who shouldn’t have been. Some information was found to be outdated. The audit raised questions about how well the registry serves its primary purpose:  protecting the public.
