Dairy Farmers Continue to Struggle

During the month of September, Vermont
lost eight dairy farms, bringing the state’s total number of farms down to 1035.  Then, last week, farmers got word that they
would receive one time emergency aid payments of between $5,000 and $25,000.  But many worry that those payments won’t be
enough to offset some of the industry’s larger problems and low milk prices.  We look into the continuing struggles for
dairy farms in our region, with Vermont’s
Agriculture Secretary Roger Allbee, and the state’s Dairy Policy Administrator,
Diane Bothfeld.

Also, we explore a largely overlooked and fascinating
chapter in the American space program; when women were barred from training as
astronauts. Vermont author Tanya
Lee Stone talks about her new book "Almost Astronauts, 13 Women Who Dared
to Dream."
