Jim Douglas has served in an elected office almost continuously since 1972. That’s when, fresh out of Middlebury College he was elected to the Vermont House. After stints as Secretary of State and State Treasurer, Douglas was elected Governor in 2002.

Now, after four terms leading the state, he is just a few weeks away from leaving public office. We look back on the successes and the failures of the Douglas governorship with former Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Deputy Sabina Haskell and Green Mountain Daily Publisher John Odum. And at the legacy of his tenure in office.

Plus, in the wake of Senator Bernie Sanders’s filibuster on the floor of the Senate, UVM political science professor Garrison Nelson looks at the history of the technique, its effectiveness and the attention Sanders has attracted in the past week.

And, we hear the Caribbean rhythms of the Cuban band Septeto Tipico Tivoli. The band was invited to visit Vermont by members of Feminine Touch, a women’s chorus in Springfield. The band is giving demonstrations and teaching Master classes in an exchange of American and Cuban cultures.
