The city of Burlington has rejected a plan by the owners of a hostel to use
their Main
Street
facility as a shelter for homeless families during the winter.
Governor Peter Shumlin on Wednesday issued an executive order to reconstitute the Vermont Council on Homelessness. The interagency group is charged with developing a 10-year plan to end homelessness.
Circumstances
have left Meghann Cline and her three children homeless. They’ve been living at
the COTS shelter for more than three months and time is running out. Success
would be: saving enough money for an apartment, finding an apartment that’s
affordable, and then getting a landlord to say yes.
Homeless in Vermont
A special VPR program hosted by Neal Charnoff
Homelessness is a persistent problem in Vermont, and it’s on the rise among families with children. VPR examines the changing face of homelessness in “Homeless in Vermont." We look at the growing number of families and working poor who are in need of shelter. We also visit a homeless family, talk with shelter providers, and hear about the renewed effort to address this troubling issue.
