Senator Patrick Leahy plans to co-sponsor a
bill that would help keep heavy trucks out of Vermont’s small towns. Trucks
weighing more than 80,000 pounds are currently not permitted on the
interstate highways.
A special one-year program that allowed heavy trucks to stay on
interstate highways hasn’t been renewed in Washington. That means a number of smaller towns in Vermont
are bracing for the return of truck traffic through their
communities.
