The state is being
sued for discrimination against a female employee in the Department of
Corrections. The Vermont Human Rights Commission says the state failed to
provide equal pay to Lynne Silloway, an administrative services coordinator at
The head of Vermont’s Corrections Department says a recent Supreme Court
ruling on strip searches won’t make a significant difference in procedures used
in Vermont. In 2011,
there were over 3,000 admissions in Vermont correctional facilities, and only 21 strip searches.
Vermont State Police say it’s no laughing matter that images of a pig
showed up on decals on the side of about 30 of their cruisers, and they say inmates at the Department of Corrections are responsible.
The Vermont Senate gave unanimous approval this month to a bill that
takes aim at the problem of recidivism: former prisoners who commit new
