New
Hampshire Fish and Game officials say rescue crews who endured high winds and
torrential rain to rescue an injured hiker in the White Mountains likely saved his life.
After a winter of
warmer weather and icier conditions on the slopes, this weekend’s snow storm
had skiers and snowboarders rejoicing.
But emergency rescue officials say the storm also rekindled safety concerns.
With all of the fresh powder from the most recent snowstorm, many people will
be heading to the mountains for skiing. And
that raises the possibility of more search and rescue operations for lost
skiers.
VPR’s Jane Lindholm talks with Brian Lindner, one of the founding members of the Waterbury Backcountry Rescue Team about the logistics, risks, and expenses of wilderness rescue.
