One of the most influential independent record companies during Rock & Roll’s early years was The Chancellor Record Company in Philadelphia. Chancellor Records was founded in November, 1956 by Bob Marcucci and Peter DeAngelis, and over the next seven years they produced several dozen popular hit records including the many big hits of teen idols Frankie Avalon and Fabian. Bob Marcucci’s success in helping make Avalon and Fabian big stars became the inspitation for the 1980 motion picture "The Idolmaker".
