On rare occasions back in the 1950’s and 1960’s, English language hit songs in the United States and Great Britain were re-recorded phonetically in foreign languages by the original artists for distribution in Europe. Rarely were these recordings commercially successful, and today they exist as very rarely heard fascinating artifacts of popular music history. This week Joel Najman’s My Place program presents a collection of pop hits sung in German by the Beatles, Petula Clark, Connie Francis,  Gene Pitney and others.
