16th-century Hungarian Countess Erzsebet Bathory was accused of unspeakable crimes. Was she really the ‘Blood Countess’ of legend? That’s the subject of Erzsebet by Vermont composer Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, which will receive its premiere performances this weekend in Hyde Park, Plainfield and Burlington. At 11 today I speak with him and we listen to some of his Csardas, played by Michael Arnowitt. Dennis reworked Csardas as the overture to Erzsebet.
